Web programming, also known as web development, not to be confused with web design, is server side scripting code that brings data driven and interactive websites to life by creating dynamic functionality on the web. Websites such as Facebook and eBay are two good examples of what dynamic websites can do.
Most websites need this type of functionality for such things as selling products online, managing customer lists, generating reports and analyzing data, etc. If your website is going to be static, that is a design with only text and pictures that wont change then you need not read on but if that’s not the case then you have some decisions to make regarding the programming language that will be used and what type of web hosting will be needed. I program in the two most popular languages, which are ColdFusion and PHP.
ColdFusion has been my language of choice for the last twelve years and now I’m moving into PHP, as due to it’s popularity, I have been receiving more-and- more requests from clients to do so. These two languages are very similar in code and either one is capable of running just about any web site. You will find a number of these websites on the portfolio page.
